Do you ever experience that need to blog something, but you are half way up Mt. Everest at the time and can’t get a WiFi signal from the nearest Starbucks???
Well if you do, then one of the Contact 3.0 packages is for you. This thing is amazing (and the price scary). The basic hiking package contains; the Contact software, a PDA (iPAQ 2210/2215), a digital camera (Sony DSC-P31), a GPS, a satellite phone (Globalstar Satellite system) and of course all the associated cables, server access and email accounts…and it all lives in a really cool Pelican waterproof / airtight / mother of all cases. Hook it all up and you can be posting text, audio, photos and even video from nearly anywhere on earth.
Check out some of the expeditions that have used Contact and get a feel for what the sites look like.
The big killer is the not the cost of buying the all the individual components…well the software is pretty pricey…but its the fees to use the Contact system if your not geeky enough to set it up your own system. Hey…maybe its a new market for Movable Type or the open source guys over at WordPress??
It is very cool though…so cool Iwill have to get (or more to the point, make myself) one.
