Received an email today from Land Rover Australia highlighting that entries are now open for the 2009 Land Rover G4 Challenge.

It’s on again.

Land Rover invite you to register to see if you’re good enough to represent Australia against a total of 36 men and women from 18 countries in the world’s ultimate adventure.

This is the third Land Rover G4 Challenge, and it’s planned to take place over three weeks, in Asia, in 2009.

You will run up mountains, cycle down valleys, kayak rivers, swing from bridges, and of course drive for thousands of miles against the clock, and your rivals.

And you’ll be helping to raise funds for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Society. As part of the International Federation partnership, Land Rover will also donate a vehicle to the National Red Cross, or the Red Crescent Society, associated with the winning team at the Challenge Finals.

This is arguably the toughest challenge in the world. Land Rover wouldn’t have it any other way.

Are you up to the challenge? Click here.

2008 Promo Video

Hmmm…as tempting as it sounds (and looks), i imagine i would get out-classed by some 24 year old extreme outdoor adventure junkie….though i’m sure that I could still give him a run for his money ;)

Anyway…the deadline for entries into the Australian National Selections is 5pm EST on July the 15th, 2008.

NOTE: this post is from the ExpeditionOz v2 site and was originally posted on March the 15th 2005

Siemens have released an add on for their M65 “ruggedized phone” specifically for mountain bikers, and its called…the Bike-o-Meter IBS-600.

The Bike-o-Meter has the following features:

Cyclometer and mobile holder in one

Display of distance, speed and time

Navigation of predefined routes

Route recording on the move

Now…of courses the unit doesn’t have a built in GPS, and its not doing your route navigation or logging via cell tower distance calculations…all its doing is plotting distance points based on the cyclometer… ie. how far you have travelled against pre-set distances you entered into the software before you got on your bike. The site is a little bit <del>deceiving</del> lacking in the way it describes what the unit does, so i would recommend checking out the downloadable manual if you interested in it.

The site also has a little section where you can download some pre-created tours to load onto the Bike-o-Meter if you are in Austria, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom…hmm…no Australia, New Zealand or US..all big mountain biking countries.

Anyway…add the Bike-o-Meter to the M65, which (according to the Siemens site) handles extreme shock, dust and is splash water resistant, and you have a pretty interesting little package aimed at a market that no other phone manufacturer is really targeting.

Now…how do i get on the “beta list” to test things like this??? :)
